Nigerian student Ifeanyichukwu Oseke was killed by a knife while studying in Canada.

During a brawl on Sunday night in a Canadian mall called Scarborough, he was fatally stabbed to death

The tragic occurrence occurred near Brimley Road and Eglinton Avenue East just after 7 o'clock in the evening, according to the Toronto Police.

"It was learned that two people had been fighting in the square. According to Toronto Police Service Duty Inspector Jeff Bangild who was present at the incident Sunday night, one of them had fairly critical injuries that necessitated an emergency trip to the nearest hospital.

"Unfortunately, one victim of their injuries has passed away. As the inquiry is ongoing, the victim in this case has not yet been identified.

According to a report by CP24, Ifeanyichukwu Oseke died on the way to the hospital and the incident is now being treated as a homicide.

Police further stated that the suspect was seen fleeing the area with another person, but no descriptions have been released.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward, as the plaza was busy at the time of the incident.

“It was very populated at the time and we understand there was a number of people that actually had seen this event,” Police said, adding that police believe it to be an isolated incident, and that there’s no risk to public safety.

When asked about the weapon used in the stabbing, the police said it appears to have been an “edged weapon” of some kind.

Businesses in the neighborhood are being urged by police to check their surveillance footage first thing in the morning for anything that can help with the homicide inquiry.

Police have described the unidentified suspect as a male with medium-length dark hair who was wearing light-colored jeans, a tank top, and shoes.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers or the police in an anonymous manner.
