JAMB UPDATE; JAMB Seeks Autonomy




The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has called on the National Assembly to grant the agency autonomy.


Oloyede who made this call when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee on finance at the going 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework session asked the federal government to stop funding the capital and overhead of the examination body.

The Registrar however wants the federal government to take responsibility for staff salaries as a condition for granting the examination body full autonomy.


In his presentation, Oloyede explained that the agency generated 8.733 billion naira revenue from registration of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, UTME, Direct Entry e-Facility services, consultancy and Miscellaneous.

The agency remitted 3.5 billion naira in 2021 while 3 billion naira was remitted in 2022 with additional sum of 1.21 million naira auto-deducted by Federal Government.


The committee commended JAMB for its transparency and accountability asking other MDAs to emulate the agency.
